I’ve been sewing since I was about 10 years old. My mom liked to cross stitch, so when I asked if I could try, she gave me one of her old pattern booklets. I loved it! I kept all my supplies and thread in an old short bread cookie tin (that I still have buried somewhere in all my craft stuff!) and I would sit for hours working on cute little apples, houses and borders. As a super outdoorsy, rollerblading, soccer-playing little girl, sewing was definitely one of my "calmer" hobbies! I'm sure my mom was happy to have me inside for a few minutes and not have to worry if I was wiping out on my rollerblades.
As I got older, I learned to crochet, embroider, knit and use a sewing machine. But dang it- I love cross stitching! It's the only one I have come back to over and over. From picking a pattern and wrapping thread, to the that giddy feeling you get when sewing the last few stitches. I love the entire process.
We all started stitching at different times in our life or for different reasons. Maybe you learned when you were young or started during covid for something to do while stuck inside. Maybe it helps your anxiety or keeps your hands busy while you binge your favorite movies and shows. (I can raise my hand for all of those reasons!) We are so excited for you to join our cross stitch community- Happy stitching, friends!
